Bozak & Friends

The Saturday, from 21:00 to 23:00

Paul Morrissey's love of music started by listening to his older brother’s 45s, his own influences grew from listening to early Motown and soul of the early seventies especially the Philly Sound.

The late 70’s saw Paul take a long running residency at Bath’s famous Tiffany’s & guesting at various Bristol nights with early mentors Superfly, Seymour & Dennis Richards. Paul had great successes using DJs from across the West Country for his soul movement alldayers attracting people from far & wide.

When not spending his weekends in a DJ booth, Paul & his friends would be at The Royalty; Southgate, The Goldmine; Canvey Island, The Rio; Didcot or an all-dayer or nighter, now part of his musical DNA.  At the Rio, Paul became good friends with resident DJ Chris D Smith who went on to become an influential mentor. Travelling the length & breadth of the UK, Paul’s influences covered everything from Northern to Jazz-Funk.

In 1984 Paul Morrissey was invited to guest at Nicky Holloway’s London Bridge gig, The Royal Oak. Paul went on to become a regular & to play at Nicky’s Doo’s At The Zoo, The Special Branch Bognor Weekenders & the original Special Branch in Ibiza. Other regular guest spots came playing next to the likes of  Paul Oakenfold, Trevor Fung and Carl Cox in darkest Streatham’s Ziggy’s.

Around this time Paul bought his own night club Sanbourne’s in Bristol. Hosting his weekly soul nights with the likes of Nicky Holloway, Trevor Fung & The Soul Mafia’s own Robbie Vincent & Chris Hill. Sanbourne’s also boasted its own 6T’s night & a residency by Bristol’s Wild Bunch (now Massive Attack).

These gigs brought him to the attention of the Caister Weekender promoters who invited Paul to join the Caister Crew at their bi annual events.  Having been a punter at the Norfolk weekender this was a long time dream, thank you Nicky Holloway for the recommendation!

During the nineties he had long running residencies at Fish Dude, Revolution, Gorgeous & Karanga playing alongside many of the nation’s top DJs.

The 2000’s saw him take residencies with Dynamo Productions at Fabric and with Andy Smith at Steve Lawler’s ‘Harlem Nights’ in London’s West End club The END. With regular spots at Bristol’s Drive By, Cardiff’s Lamerica, Garage City with Bobby & Steve and at London’s world famous Jazz Café. His weekly ‘Rhythm & Soul’ Soulful House night ran for five years in Bristol.

After a number of years playing alongside good friend Jon Jules on the Quality Street events, Paul hooked up with early mentor Chris D Smith again playing on the Rio Reunions and has become a regular on Camp Soul, the Cotswold Soul Weekender and Liverpool Disco Festival. Paul can be regularly found playing on the Groove Odyssey rosta alongside Bobby & Steve as well as hosting his own ‘Bozak & Friends’ club nights.

Paul has been a stalwart of the DJ hardware industry. As Technical Manager at the Vestax Corporation he was responsible for a number of their premium products including the Carl Cox signature mixer, the PMC-CX. Paul later went on to join Soundcraft as the Product Manager responsible for bringing back the UREI product range.

Since 2007 Paul has been busy running his own company Analog Developments reviving the historic Bozak brand, bringing it right up to date with modern versions of these vintage mixers.

With Bozak & Friends, expect a mix of everything from Soul to House and Jazz to Disco, both classic and new with weekly guest mini-mixes from the worlds finest DJs and selectors.
